  • Marcus, it was a shocking and disturbing message from you. But I (and I am sure, many many of us) appreciate your honesty. From a business viewpoint it was and will be costly No businessperson can admit what you did and not suffer consequences.

To a degree, I can relate to your experiences-alcoholism and depression ran in my family, specifically my father and several of my uncles. My dad’s problem was alcoholism and over a 20 year period, he was in and out of hospitals and psyschiatricic units probably 10 times. Each time he would go through the “DT’s” and get better. But it didn’t last long because he eventually wound up back in the hospital. He lived as a man who had no hope.

I tried the hard stuff briefly when I was younger but could never acquire a taste for it. I found something to put my hope in and it has sustained me for all these years. I’m not saying it has been an easy, never will happen again life, but even when I have fallen, I have always had that hope to fall on.

Feel free to contact me if you want to known about the hope I have. You are worth it.

    Vance Tucker

  • Marcus,
I wish you success in beating your demons. You can do this!
You are a remarkable man and deserve peace in your life. I am sure your family is behind you and your online friends are, too! Take whatever time you need to be the person you want to become. It is NEVER too late to change. God be with you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    your online friend,

    Mary Ann

  • Marcus you are one in a million. I know you have written me off your list, but I still care about you as a person. Get well and don’t let anything stop you from becoming sober. You are very brave to announce it publicly like this and even though it has been hard for you, it is very likely the best beginning to getting better. Be sure to let your staff handle things and get some rest as well. Good Luck, I’ll be thinking of you, JoAnne

  • Marcus, it sounds like you are on the right path, I have faith in you and your future. My prayers are with you, your family and those who are helping you and taking care of you. See you back in the saddle in 30 days!

    God Bless you,

    Ben Kendall

  • Hi Marcus, I’ve never been moved to leave a comment on someone’s blog before. I just wanted to wish you well during this tough time and to say thanks for your generosity and inspiration. I enjoy your videos and your honest, transparent approach to business. I’ve worked for nearly 20 years in the creative industry and always found that the people with real talent tended to be the most honest, open and friendly and you, definitely fall into that category.

Look after yourself and your family.

    Best wishes Andy

  • Don´t give up!

  • Marcus:

Thanks for sharing this private and personal matter with us. • Marcus,

I’m glad you made the right decision in going to treatment. There is a good life at the other end… I’ve been sober for 30 years and I’m still grateful for that every day. Warmest wishes! Deanna

  • Congradulations! The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. I commend you for adding staff, you have appeared to me to need to delegate more. Your business has to change as it gets larger. You will no doubt grow stronger and meet new friends on this journey. You are likely not going to feel like addressing the demands of your business for a while. You have capable hands minding the store. Get well, and peace to you that passes your understanding. Mark

  • Get a copy of Living Sober and a copy of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, Then get your self a sponsor and listen to what he says and do it. The hardest part of this journey you are beginning is the realization that you only have to live in the moment and take the experiences in life one day at a time, not to think and project your thoughts and ideas of what should be into the rest of your life. You also need to be brutally honest with yourself. When you can talk to your self truthfully, you will realize that this is a simple process that can be easily accomplished daily. I wish you a slow, long recovery. You will know what I mean when you get there. Have a great day! VR. Alan

  • We all love you Marcus, You take as time as you need to get well, You and your health far out way anything that we need.

    God Bless

  • All the best for you, Marcus. It is amazing that you’re able to function at such a high level with the challenges you currently face. It also take courage to share your inner most situations along with others online. Take the time to heal yourself. All else will fall in place soon.

  • Marcus
Facing your demons is half the battle, so you are halfway there already. If not for yourself, do it for the ones you love, they are counting on you. As clichéd as this may sound, today really is the first day of the rest of your life.

    God Bless

  • Marcus, I know the difficulty you may have had to open yourself to us. This is the first step to recovery – taking responsibility to get help. I am sure the service providers will be there for you as well. I look forward to hearing about your journey. Know that we are here for you.

Take care and get well soon.

  • Thanks for sharing where you’re at Marcus.

I appreciate your courage to quit hiding and speak out. I know it can be extremely painful and our oh-so-human minds don’t like to do this kind of thing – at all. Which is why it sometimes takes so long.

But the pain pales compared to the joy at the end of the tunnel :-)

I happen to have a good degree of personal experience with addiction behaviour and have personally transcended a couple of them. So in case you wanna talk to a man with heart – feel free to contact me.

Best wishes for the journey, let me assure you it is worth it.

    Dimitri (NZ)

  • Well I second Bob’s thoughts above. I am very particular about who’s lists I am on, and there are many emails that I do not open. Your’s are ALWAYS opened, so to read this one was a bit of a shock. Rest assured I will be keeping an eye out for your emails when you return.

You are certainly right in your video when you say there is a lot of crap out there in the IM industry, you are one of the very few that make sense and are truly honourable.

I wish you nothing but the very best and I know in just 30 days, what you have been through will be a distant memory. Know that you do not simply have subscribers or followers on your list, but you actually have true friends that really care about you. Take care and get well soon.

I have seen a lot of lives turned around when they got deliverance. Be talking to ya soon on live chat…ps-this too shall pass…jj–>jerry

  • It takes a man to admit his weakness and then seak help but, it takes a big man to tell his story to the world. I know you’ll say but I’m just a little guy but, IN MY EYES you stand tall. Much comfort to your wife, children and dog. Oh yes, a bird too. You are addictive and I can’t leave you. You are to me, the greatest mind out there. Maybe the pressure to show us, your students, that we can make it is to much for that fabulous mind of yous. We will wait. Get better. Heal. Good luck Guru, slow and steady. I pray for you and yours.

  • Hi Marcus, I think it is an interesting “coincidence” that your stuff came to a head just as I was contacting you to help promote my site. Everything happens for a reason, and the work that I do is directly involved with supporting people to heal on the deepest levels on the mental and emotional planes. I have been blessed with some of the most powerful knowledge in this area on the leading edge of “mind/body” healing, and have been involved with this for 31 years. This information has helped me heal myself from some VERY dark places, and now I share what I have learned in the hopes of benefiting as many others as I can. I have things to share with you that I truly think can support you as you are ready to look at them. Free of charge, just to “pay it forward”. Your expertise has been illuminating to me in your field of excellence, and I simply want to give back what I know in return. I have a one page Word Doc that has a technique that is as effective as it is simple. I will send this to you whenever you want as a good place to start. It was developed by some friends of mine who are professional psychologists. They are receiving international acclaim for their progressive and ground breaking work in this area. Like the others, I applaud your honesty in “coming clean” in public like this. It has to be a huge relief to do so. The only way to ever fix a problem is to admit that we have it. I don’t agree with the person who said that you would suffer business consequences. Personally, you have gained an even deeper respect from me, and I will be eager to work with you again when you emerge from the other side of this tunnel you are entering. You are a man of tremendous will and “Shen” as we say in Kung Fu. This is fighting spirit. I am certain you will prevail, and be that much mightier for it! Much Respect, Sifu David Shaman

  • Marcus,
Admittance shows great courage and is the first step to overcoming anything someone struggles with. I wasted many years in the fog of alcoholism. The hardest part was separating myself from my drinking buddies and situations.
Thinking of your students during this time shows remarkable charachter. I pray for you and your family during this trial in your life.
Thank you for all you do!

    Russ ~~

  • Hi Marcus
Sorry to hear about your struggle with depression and alcohol , Youre a winner youll beat this little problem.Just put my stuff on hold .
    God Bless

  • I really appreciate your honesty in this struggle. I too have suffered from different manifestations of mental illness, although now I am stable and I know you can be too. Having someone who is as respected as you are come out and declare this is so helpful – we really are all in this together. Best of luck with you – stay strong when the times are hard – there is no way out but through.

  • Been there, done that…Realizing you have a problem and getting help is the hardest part, although it won’t seem like it at the time. Get well and we’ll all see you soon.

  • Congratulations Marcus in taking the step out of the fog of denial. I speak as a carer of a person in addiction for some 20 years. Who found the inner strength on several occasions to seek help and eventually came out the other side. Your honesty has meant that I have known for a long time about your struggle and obvious let down when your greatest desire hasn’t been fulfilled.

I am so glad you have found the strength and confidence to realise you alone cannot conquer these demons. Your wife and family must love and value you dearly to stick by you through the ups and lows. Keep their love close while you go on this glorious journey. Feel the vision in your body while at the same time being kind to yourself and others around you.
    Cheers Colin

  • Hi Marcus, I’m happy to know that you have realized that you have a problem that is the first step and realizing you need help is the 2nd step and reaching out for that help is a very good sign. You have to admit to the problem so, realizing you need help is a huge step in the right direction.

I know a little about addiction, my husband was drug addict he was on meth and even made the stuff, fortunately not at our house. And heard from a neighborhood that our house was being watched that’s when my marriage ended because I realized that he was a threat to our children being taken away. So I know a little about addiction.

But you have taken the first giant step towards the help you need. Our prayers our with you.

  • Marcus My friend, Im sure your Gonna beat this Problem, we All love you and proud To me your Student !!

  • Please get well soon marcus.

  • God bless you for taking this critical step in finally destroying your demons. I’ve had friends and relatives who suffered from depression/mental illness and alcohol or drug abuse. It is all so profoundly sad to watch their pain. Some of them sought professional help and some of them didn’t, and I’ve seen both success stories and tragedies as direct results of their decisions.

Sometimes the condition is congenital, but oftentimes it is the manifestation of some kind of childhood trauma. In either case, of course, getting the right help is key, and that is exactly what you are doing. It takes tremendous strength on your part, and I admire you for being so committed to getting healthy. No one should ever be suffering needlessly.

You are a brilliant marketer, who freely shares your best ideas, and this is pretty rare in IM. I have no doubt you’ll be a new man in 30 days, Our prayers will be with you during your recovery., and you WILL make a full recovery!

  • Dear Dear Marcus although I don’t have simple profits not because I don’t want it, it is because I cant afford it at this moment, but I have been a follower of yours for a long long time and I value you teaching methods which has taught me a lot.
I am so sorry to hear of your illness but I am sure you will be just fine and ready to get back into the saddle again after your treatment. we will be thinking of you and praying for your full recovery.
Best of luck and regards to the family
    Liz Serfontein

  • That was the hard part. Now let the experts take care of you and follow their advice. Wishing you and your family the a happier future.

  • I am very moved by your openness about this. What a great example you are. I know all will be well with you.

  • Hi Marcus, so sorry to hear about your pain and suffering. I find it very interesting that this all came to a head at the exact same time I was approaching you to help promote my site. Empowering and helping people to heal on the deepest levels is an integral aspect of what we do. I have many, many powerful resources that can support you if you would like me to share them with you. These are from a different perspective from the conventional methods, and so they can at the very least be complimentary and supportive to the main actions you are taking. Some close friends of mine are receiving international recognition for this one specific method: which is a tool for professional counselors. I have a one page Word Doc that I can send you for free that is designed to provide immediate benefit directly to the lay person. There is profound effectiveness in it’s simplicity, and there are important principles involved that give it tremendous impact. I have utilized this, and other similar “Mind/Body” techniques to bring myself out of some very dark places. This stuff really works. I offer it to you in thanks for all of the knowledge that you have shared with me in your own areas of expertise. If you, or anyone else, would like this info. Just email me at In Kung Fu we learn that “happiness is a skill”. Like any other skill, it requires practice in how we focus and direct our mind on a daily basis. After 31 years in this field, I find this tool I can send you to be one of the very best ways to start to do this. As we say, you have a lot of “Shen”, or fighting spirit! Directing it properly will allow you to triumph in the most magnificent fashion, and be even more mighty than ever. You can do it for sure, by simply applying the same discipline and clarity that you have brought to your other accomplishments. I wish this for you, and as a teacher of the way of deep inner peace that knowledge of self can bring, I am humbly at your service.
    Sifu David Shaman

  • Hi Marcus!! Sorry for the redundant comment. I thought that the 1st one did not go through because I sent it from my phone. Now I just saw that you are screening them. Smart! I prefer to keep these comments private anyway, between you and I. Unless you think they can benefit others. Marcus, I have suffered from addiction, depression, and many afflictions. Even as I have worked to learn to be a better teacher, healer and business man. Learning to TRULY take responsibility for how we direct our minds on deeper levels is key. Like dealing with the root of a weed, and not just the obvious growth of it. The knowledge I use personally, and share with my students, is nothing less than transformational. You are unconventional in everything else you do, and seem to LIVE outside the box! I hope you can consider the value in what I am offering to you, even though it is very different. It creates powerful change, and I have no ulterior motive for sharing them. I am just honor bound to “pay forward” that which has caused me to be able to gain such well-being in a consistent and sustainable way. I have simply learned to recognize and develop the ability to direct my personal power in a way that keeps me in a very positive space. It is quite pragmatic, and not “woo woo”. It is based on the logic of systematically applying proven principles to how we perceive and experience the world. There is deep science behind it.
    Wishing you all the best,
PS: On a lighter note….How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
Only ONE! But the lightbulb has to REALLY want to change!!!!!

  • Wishing you the best of the best Marcus. You are a brave person for sharing your problems with us and I know that you will successfully win this battle. One minute, one hour, one day at a time, you can do this. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Hi Marcus All power & strength to you buddy, Best Jon

  • Hi Marcus, you’re in my thoughts and prayers. I believe I sensed some of your present issues during some webinars a couple of years ago. To share…I had ‘drinking problems’ in my 20s (i’m now 67 and survived…drink very little now). Psychology was/is a learning area in my life (my 1st spouse was a psychologist and I had/have many friends involved in Substance Abuse Remediation and I was on a Suicide Prevention Board in our county). Depression is an unusual and not always recognized ‘state’ that takes many ‘forms’ of anxiety. Psychologically, alcohol and ‘mild’ substance abuse seem to be okay to indulge in (perhaps in moderation)…but, can be physically debilitating at extremes and expressly so if genetically exposed to addiction…which based on your conversation, may be an issue. With your support group there and here on the net…I believe you can get through this…it might help to empathize with all the disabled veterans returning to a VA heathcare system in shambles and the harsh reality of health insurance under Obamacare for many others. Sometimes…it helps to ‘get out of yourself’ and into helping others the way you help your students. Remember…crisis can mean opportunity. Wishing the Best for You, Larry

  • I’ll pray for you.

  • Marcus, I want you to know that I am praying for your family and you. It is not weak to ask for help. I applaud you to face that you need help, being transparent, and have the presence of mind to come clean and know that these giants adversely impact the quality of your family and you. I pray that you take this time to REALLY work the program, and I hope you DON’T TAKE YOUR COMPUTER. It is my prayer that you totally disconnect from business, hand the reins over to your business associates, and make your treatment your priority. You don’t need any distractions. TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER and completely immerse yourself in your treatment so you can come out on the other side to LIVE IN PEACE, NOT IN PIECES.

  • Kudos to you to seek help. I have a dear friend that it is battleing the same thing and it breaks my heart seen him loosing his life every minute. Take all the time you need. You can do this. As a student of yours , I am not going any where , I’ve learnd so much and continue to learn from you. Go Marcus, and as you always say: THIS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!

  • Hi Marcus,

I know you are dealing with this problem lately but last three weeks when you promote the Blog you was ok.
You never talk about Depression in your webinar.
My question is when i was so exited and first person i joined for the blog why nothing really done on your part?
I know every one of us deal with problem in life, i can tell you i was dealing with my drug use but at the same time i get up at 7:00 am in morning and had to work 6 days a week to serve my customer when i had heating business in here.
Or find a person or people to get the job done of those customer i charged their credit card so i can not understand with the amount of money you have made on internet this couldn’t be done with just a little bit of sense of responsibility as a online business owner.
At the same time appreciate your honesty to mention what is happening in your life i don’t think the customer have to be responsible for this and my opinion end of the day i am dealing with lack of money and unpaid bill and as your subscriber and your customer look at you as a coach and trainer really does not make me happy this situation.
I hope at the same time i can pray for you, like you said take some times with your support and get some job done on my blog, since i am suffering from making money online as you suffer from your personal problem.

Looking to see you get better

  • Our prayers and thoughts go out to you Marcus.

    You are a good man!!!

You give what you say…..AND MORE.

It is now your turn to receive. Be strong and give the good fight. Attack you demons with the vigor you pursue helping others. If you do that, you will do GREAT!! Look forward to your fast recovery!!! We, like your family NEED YOU MARCUS!! We will all be thinking and praying for you Marcus……YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help to me in the past Marcus… can win this!

  • Hi Marcus, I had a similar experience in my life. I was drinking, doing drugs, smoking, and was not a happy camper. With help from the Lord, I was able to stop all the drugs, drinking, and smoking. I cleaned myself up, and have been in control since. Good for you for asking for help. Best of luck, and God Bless.

  • As you can see Marcus, you are loved and cared about by so many! To me that makes you quite an achiever and successful man! You have given so much to those of us, who want to succeed on line. You truly care! So what goes around comes around. You will be blessed for all the good you have done. I have to say that you have given me hope when I felt I could not succeed online. I thank you for that!

This may be a difficult time, but you will come out of it because you are ready and determined. You have lots of potential and so much to give to others. You have made a difference in many people’s lives, and we need you to get well so you can continue to do so!

More importantly, you will heal so that you can live a happy and healthy life. A life filled with joy, abundance and peace of mind! You have a mission to fulfill in this planet, and a future with much triumph.

Remember you can because you think you can! Say: “I will overcome every obstacle. I will outlast every adversity. Things have shifted in my favor. I will break my addiction! My greatest victories are in my future. Prophesy victory!

Not to long ago I truly felt worthless and sad. I was in B&N one day and stumbled upon this book, The Power of I Am, by Joel Olsteen. I hope that you can pick up a copy. It truly made a difference in my life. It has lots of food for thought! Very positive and inspirational.

We may nourish our bodies and our minds, but we sometimes neglect to nourish our spirit. I recommended it to others as well. You don’t have to be religious fanactic to read it, it is truly food for the soul that I know can help you as well. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. All the best to you! Iris

  • I’ve done the 12 step programs AA and NA. They totally worked for me. Recent research has shown that addiction is really all about connecting with people, not drug dependence. That’s why the 12 step programs work. Because they teach the addict to reconnect with the people around them and that will mitigate their addiction.

Two years ago I discovered the root cause of the depression that plagued me for 25 years. It was caused by gluten. Going gluten free saved my life! Turns out your gut acts like a mind – hence “gut reactions” – so when you damage your gut by eating wheat you are messing up your mind. My symptoms disappeared within a month of going gluten free.

Really the key is to heal your body with food. Proper nutrition fixes everything. Breaking your addiction to sugar is paramount. No wheat. No dairy. No burnt meat. No oil that comes in a bottle – vegetable oils are deadly. No sodas. No packaged snack foods. No processed meat. Animal fat is good. Poached eggs, not fried, are good. Raw eggs even better.

There are a couple of myths (lies, actually) that you need to beware of: cholesterol is good, not bad. Salt is good for you, not bad. Cholesterol lowering drugs, statins, cause Alzheimer’s syndrome. Your brain is 75% white matter – cholesterol – which the statin drugs destroy, causing your nerve fibers to get tangled up, messing with your ability to think. Salt is essential for nerve conduction and your system is built to process salt very efficiently. If you take in too much you just pee it out. Salt does not raise blood pressure. Never has, never will. A lack of salt will make you sick. Get some pink himalayan salt and use it liberally. A great source of essential minerals.

    Keep on keepin’ on,

  • Marcus,
I so respect you. I’m so glad that you value your life even with the past mistakes, because past mistakes don’t define who we are today. You are defining yourself today as a man of worth, integrity and someone who has much to give himself, his family, his students and the world.
My prayers for you are that working through the issues and seeing yourself living free from these negative emotions will lift you up and out of their grasp for good.
Blessings to your wife and kids as they stand by you as you recover.
